The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is from the Rig Veda (Mandala 7.59.12) and is also called the Tryambakam Mantra after its first words. It addresses the three-eyed Lord (Tryambaka) — Shiva in his form as the conqueror of death. Traditional usage is for serious illness, surgery, or as a daily protective recitation, often as part of the Rudri or Maha Rudra Yajna. The mantra is also called the "Sanjivani Mantra" — the life-restoring incantation.

Benefits of recitation

  • Healing of physical and mental ailments
  • Protection from untimely death (apamrityu)
  • Removal of fear and anxiety
  • Longevity and vitality
