What is Vivah Muhurat?
A vivah muhurat is an auspicious time window selected for a Hindu wedding ceremony. In Vedic astrology, the timing of a marriage is considered as important as the match itself. A good muhurat ensures the planetary positions are favourable for the couple beginning their life together.
Vivah muhurat is determined by examining several factors from the panchanga โ the tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (birth star), vara (weekday), yoga, and karana. Beyond these five elements, the muhurat pandit also checks that Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and other inauspicious periods do not overlap with the ceremony time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many muhurat dates are there in 2026 for weddings? Approximately 45 to 55 auspicious wedding dates fall in 2026, concentrated in JanuaryโMarch and NovemberโDecember. The exact count depends on regional traditions and individual kundali factors.
Can we have a wedding during Chaturmas? Most traditional Hindu families avoid weddings during Chaturmas (roughly July to November). However, some communities and regions do not observe this restriction strictly. Consult your family pandit for guidance specific to your tradition.
Is it necessary to have a muhurat for a court marriage? A muhurat is specific to Hindu religious ceremonies. A court marriage under the Special Marriage Act has no such requirement, though many families still choose an auspicious date for the signing.
What if our preferred date doesn't have a good muhurat? A skilled pandit can often identify an auspicious time window even on less-than-ideal dates by choosing a favourable lagna and avoiding inauspicious periods within the day. The ceremony timing within the day matters as much as the date itself.
Which month has the most wedding dates in 2026? November and December 2026 have the highest concentration of auspicious wedding dates, making them the peak wedding season months.
